MiFID II Time Synchronisation NTP PTP IEEE 1588

Banks and Financial Institutions use DATA CENTRE clusters operating in synchronized time domain requiring micro-seconds. Bank IT infrastructure requires robust automatic overnight backup systems. Electronic payment systems and credit card operations are requiring both: security and transaction registry (DB). Timestamping is used for long-term preservation of signatures and data sealing. Accuracy requirements is only ten part of second but there is strong requirement  for trusted time reference. Cryptographic timestamping RFC3161 proves financial transaction non-repudiation. Timestamping deployment at bank reuires eIDAS and MiFIR compliance.

Stock Exchange. The HFT (High Ferency Trading) matching engines based on sequence need to understand order of trade execution. Network LOW LATENCY and SYSTEM CO-LOCATION must ensure minimum  10mln-tradings/s. ESMA MiFID II  directive requires a time resolution  of single  microsecond and synchronization accuracy to better than 100 µs. Today, NY Wall Street & London Stock Exchange keep accuracy of synchronization of High Frequency Trading at  level of single nanosecond.

Recommended configuration. Please consider to use min. 1 - best if 2 redundantly operating time servers per single Data Center. Server can be configured on way of giving a ref. time to each other. Servers can be equipped with redundant powersupplys.

A very good idea is to use 2 redundant GNSS receivers. Two antenna-receivers helps prevent GPS jamming and spoofing. They can be installed on location 700 meters from time server each.
